Members of the Royal Family will follow many traditions which include what they eat. Speaking on BBC’s Royal Recipes, an expert shared the cottage pie recipe believed to be loved by royals including Prince William, 38.
Appearing on the show, chef Paul Ainsworth shared a recipe for a cottage pie, a meal that was reportedly loved by Prince William when he was a child.
Presenter Michael Buerk said: “That was supposed to be Prince William’s favourite, or at least was as a child.”
Method
To prepare the base, add cubed carrots, onion, leek and celery to a large ovenproof pan.

The chef stated: “We’ve got some garlic in there grated and we’re just going to add some thyme as well.
“We’re going to add a little pinch of cracked black pepper and seasoning.
“Next we have our mushroom ketchup, a nice glug of that then we turn up the heat and reduce that down.
“While that’s reducing, something that’s really old-fashioned is browning the flour.”
Once removed from the oven, transfer into a baking pot and cover with mashed potato then smooth with a fork.
The chef added: “Use a potato like a Désirée or King Edward’s potato. Just [use] a really good mash potato.”
Finish the dish by covering in Berkswell cheese before placing back in the oven.
Leave the pie in the oven for around 30 minutes at 180C before finishing under the grill.
The royal line of succession – who outranks who?
The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.
It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.
Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.
Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.
The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.
Prince Charles, 72, is currently first-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.
Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 36. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.
